Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
Hello,
I was pulled over for speeding in Nj, apparently i was going 41 in a 25, i honestly thought it was a 35 mph zone. When he comes up to my window he noticed that there was a case of beer in the back that belonged to the passanger in my car. I am only 20 so the cop took my keys and told me to step out of the car and pour all the beer out one by one. Then since i was at a university, the school had my ID so i could stay over night, and the cop also gave me a ticket for not having my drivers license. Can the cop do that with the beer? Can i fight this is court in any way?

Perhaps it was not technically allowed, but consider yourself lucky that he did not charge you with a crime of underage posession of alcohol. Regarding the speeding ticket and other ticket, please contact my office if you would like to discuss how I can assist you on those summonses. Thank you.

You can always have a trial in Court. It does not mean that you will win. You should go to Court and if you choose not to hire a lawyer, at least speak to the Municipal Prosecutor to try and work out the case. It sounds like it could have been worse. feel free to call with any questions (201)-894-9498
