You should take an attorney to court with you. The pacing method is MUCH less reliable than
the use of radar.
With a five point speeding ticket there is a chance that the prosecutor would not negotiate with you at all, and it is also possible for the judge to suspend your license depending upon the actual speed you were charged with driving. I would certainly consult with an attorney before your next court date, and it is probably a good idea to hire a lawyer to represent you due to the high rate of speed at issue. Please call me to discuss your case in more detail. I never charge for simply talking to a person about their case. Thank you.

In addition to five NJ MVC points, and the collateral impact on your insurance rates, the court can suspend your drivers license. New Jersey Law allows and guides the Court to look to the following to determine the length (if any) of the license suspension:
1) the nature and circumstances of the defendants conduct, including whether the conduct posed a high risk of danger to the public or caused physical harm or property damage;
2) the defendants driving record, including the defendants age and length of time as a licensed driver, and the number, seriousness, and frequency of prior infractions;
3) whether the defendant was infraction-free for a substantial period before the most recent violation or whether the nature and extent of the defendants driving record indicates that there is a substantial risk that he or she will commit another violation;
4) whether the character and attitude of the defendant indicates that he or she is likely or unlikely to
commit another violation;
5) whether the defendants conduct was the result of circumstances unlikely to recur;
6) whether a license suspension would cause excessive hardship to the defendant and/or dependents;
7) the need for personal deterrence; and
8) any other relevant factors clearly identified by the court.
You should hire an experienced traffic ticket lawyer to guide you through the process.
I am not aware of how fast you were traveling overall but 30 miles over, aside from the points, is serious because you could be facing a suspension of your license. For this kind of a ticket, an experienced traffic lawyer is essential to not only guide you through the process, but minimize the penalties that you may face, please feel free to contact me to discuss (201)-894-9498, I would be happy to answer any questions that you may have
