Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey
Running License Plates
If you're obeying all traffic laws, can a cop run your plate anyway?
A friend of mine had his car towed after it came back that his registration had expired 4 days prior. The cop's only reason was that he ran the plates and saw that.
Isn't this profiling?

He can run your plates; no search and seizure is required and therefore the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution is not violated.
