Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Jersey

I got a ticket for obstructed view on 1/10/13, court appearance was not required. I get letter in the mail dated 1/23/13 saying that since I did not appear in court a $10 pnealty has been added to my fine and I have until 2/4/13 to pay that charge. Can they do that?

The ticket also says that you need to pay it before the Court date. It could have been paid online or by mail. They are now charging you the extra $10 for not paying or appearing. You need to contact the Court and get the matter resolved before it gets worse for you.

Keep in mind that this answer is given based on the scanty information you have provided. My answer may change based on other information. Further, you cannot rely on this answer since you have not retained me as your attorney. To be sure that you have accurate information and direction, you should consult with an attorney. Good luck. You did not pay the ticket by the date indicated at the bottom. You need to contact the Court or go there and pay otherwise it may result in your license being suspended. Do not wait any longer.
