Legal Question in Disability Law in New York

I recently had a couple of teeth pulled 1 moler and 1 wisdom which took surgery. The doctor would not tell me what he was using to put me out and I understand it was propathall (spell check). I was not monitored. I still have part of the tooth in my gum from the surgery as well. The doctor would only tell me it was a light sedative. Is this malpractice?
