Legal Question in Administrative Law in New York
Hi, i one a music brand in Croatia and I hired an Dj who is resident In the Us. We paid him already 50% of the fee + the flight money (the flight has not been bought yet). The event he supposed to play, was meant to be on 14th June. On 17th March due to the COVID we emailed him advising the festival was going to be cancelled. No info about the refund was agreed. Today I called him asking to refund the deposit as the event was cancelled with 3 months of notice and due tot act of god. He refused. Is he entitled to keep the money?

Is your contract verbal or in writing? How much money was paid him is down payment? What is his excuse? He may be insolvent in which case you may collect nothing even if successful in a lawsuit.
