Legal Question in Business Law in New York
Corporation using dba for sub-brand
Hello:
I own a New York S corp. I would like to establish a publishing company with a different brand name underneath the corporate umbrella. When I sell a book the checks will be made payable to the publishing company beand name, not to the corporation name. For legal purposes, can I set up the publishing company as a DBA of the S-Corp? Or, is there a better way to accomplish the same thing?

Re: Corporation using dba for sub-brand
You may certainly do business under a fictitious name by filing a D/B/A with the Secretary of State. Please note, however, you have not formed two separate companies by filing the D/B/A. The publishing business is part of the S-Corp. and not a separate entity.

File a ficticious name certificate with the Secretary of State.
