Legal Question in Business Law in New York

Can I legally write about this?

I am an ex-Verizon manager, recently separated. The reasons I claim I was let go are based on unethical practices by Verizon upper management...see my website at www.verizonscrewedme.8m.com.

I am in the process of writing a book on unethical practices in corporations. I wish to mention what has happened to me in this book. Can I legally mention the name of my employer when relating MY story?

I have seen others name companies (ex Michael Moore in his books Downsize This and Stupid White Men).

Please tell me what the legal restrictions, rules, etc are regarding naming my company. Thank you.

Re: Can I legally write about this?

Freedom of speech is protected here in the U.S. However you may want to review any non-disclosure or confidentiality agreements you signed with Verizon to be sure you are not disclosing any material you agreed to keep confidential.

Also, be sure that all of the information you intend to publish is accurate and truthful so you are not vulnerable to libel claims. (Chances are your publisher has experienced researchers who will vet your book before publication. If not, you will want to do this task yourself.)

Here in America you have freedom of speech unless you contracted it away. Beware of the damages that can be imposed for libel and slander.
