Legal Question in Business Law in New York
My question is, a coworker stole a key so that she could come in and do work over the weekend. Every person told me that did not touch it and did not know what happened to the key. I had to call the locksmith to change the lock immediately since this room contains confidential information. I issued everyone new keys. I also had to file a police report. After the work day ended, this person returned with her child (and lots of tears) and told the manager of the department that she took the key. The manager felt bad for her and said o.k. The company policy indicates termination for theft and the manager did not know this. Is there a limitation to how long you have to rectify the situation and terminate this person for theft?
