Legal Question in Business Law in New York

I satarted a new business in 2004 with a friend/partner. The first two years were ok because he owned the building and took a hit on the rent while I worked the hours in the store. Two years later he sold the building and I continued to work all the hours and paid all of the bills by not taking a paycheck. He never put one minute into the place and we were 50/50 partners. My question is can I go after him for half of the bills that I paid by not taking a paycheck for the final two years we were in business? We had an agreement that when we sell the business I would be compensated for Running the business. Well the sale only gave us enough to pay for remaining bills we had. That still leaves me paying for about $50,000 in Rent, Electric, Phone and other misc. I believe he is responsible for half of the expenses. The business is in NY. Any advice you can give me would be great. Thank you for your time.

You are right in terms of your friend being responsible for payment of 1/2 expenses that you are personally responsible for. However, you are out of luck concerning your salary.
