Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York
privacy issues
My 18 yr old daughter went for a job at LHR collection agency. It was a 2 week training course and then they decided who they wanted to keep or let go. She was let go, but what bothers me is the fact that while training, these potential employees are allowed access to a data base filled with peoples personal information. Phone numbers, social security numbers, real estate info...and so on. My daughter can even access the data base from her own personal computer. Is this legal and what can I do to prevent a company like this allowing access to a national data base?

A possible start is to express your concerns to the Attorney General's Office. If someone in the office sees a problem with it, they may start an investigation. Fortunately, you live in one of the few states that is extremely active in trying to protect the consumer's interest.
