Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in New York

While my son and I were bow hunting we had a man intentionally shooting at us or into the woods we were hunting (he confesed to this in front of the judge and Asst. DA) when I went to his home he came at me in a rage and I struck him once and I was arrested for assualt and the police said I could not file charges against him for anything. Is this correct????

In the eyes of the law, you were the aggressor by going to this person's home. You can raise self-defense as a legal argument in court but you probably won't have much success getting the police or DA to file a complaint or charges against the homeowner.

You should hire a good defense attorney to represent you for an assault charge.
