Legal Question in Technology Law in New York

Can a former employer block my email

I was a manager with Verizon for 20 years. Because I wanted to report a violent employee to security, my boss threatened to fire me. This is a very long and involved story which I will gladly send if there is an attorney who thinks I may have a case. BUT my question involves E-MAIL. After I was ''laid off,'' I began sending emails to high management in Verizon telling them what happened. They did not want to hear about it...typical of this company to cover things up. When I was separated I was told that I was eligible for rehire. The problem is that Verizon has blocked me completely from sending emails to ANYONE at Verizon. This includes applying for jobs via the Verizon website!! Several weeks ago I applied for a position from a friends PC. I received a message on my answering machine expressing positive information about this position. I was instructed to follow up via email. I CANNOT!

Question: Can Verizon legally block me so that I not only cannot email employees within Verizon, but also block me from contacting employment, repair services for my phone, billing, etc.?

Re: Can a former employer block my email

You raise several interesting points and questions: can a utility block a customer (who is also an ex-employee) from reaching critical service elements (repair, DA, etc.) because of the circumstances of the termination of the former employee? Probably not. I'm not certain of the state of the law in NYS as to communication w/ non-critical service-related personnel, however, and would have to do research. There are many other questions about your former status (union/non-union, etc.) that would have to be answered before a determination of actionability could be made.
