Legal Question in Technology Law in New York

sweepstakes setup rules

I would like to start a sweepstakes for my website to increase exposure. How do I go about doing this? What are the rules and regulations. I want to have the winner get $500.00 just for visiting my site and filling out the "form" that I will create when I find out what legal rules I have to follow.

Thank you.

Re: sweepstakes setup rules

You will want to consult an attorney in your state, since sweepstakes are the subject of both state and federal law. The easiest approach to getting a broad picture of the requirements is to rely upon the compliance of another company that is conducting a sweepstakes. Because anything that the NRA does is guaranteed to attract enforcement attention from the Clinton administration, I consider it likely that the NRA's current sweepstakes rules are 100% in compliance with all applicable laws (see https://www.secure.nrahq.org/sweeps/rules.html for those rules). Once you have your contest in final form, you should consult a local attorney for a final compliance review.
