Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Credit card judgment NOT on credit report

In January, a judgment was filed against me in court and won by the credit card company sueing me. They froze my bank account and asked for the full debt amount. I recently moved from NY to MD and haven't heard anything from them since February 2007. I just received a copy of my three credit reports yesterday and neither the debt or the judgment appear on any of the reports. Is the debt still valid even if it is not on my credit report? I don't know how old this debt is and I don't know how to retain that information, so I have no idea if the statute of limitations is up. I really want to settle this debt once and for all.

If you want to settle the old debt, call up the creditor and make payment arrangements.

Re: Credit card judgment NOT on credit report

A credit report has nothing to do with the validity of the debt. The judgment is enforceable in Maryland. I would suggest you contact the creditor to make arrangements or if possible my office to discuss your legal options.
