Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

I loaned some money out to my in-laws (over ten thousand dollars) I have an IOU statement they gave us acknowledging the debt, also I have a copy of their income tax return that they gave me when I first lend them the money as proof that they were going to pay me some of the money back with the refund, I am suing them in court, but they say they don't owe me anything....what are my chances of recovering the money?

The fact that you have an IOU and they (based upon what you've said here) have no proof of repayment, I would say you stand a pretty good chance. They entered into an agreement which they have allegedly breached. Make sure if you sue, you take all documents with you to Court regardless of how insignificant you may think it is. Many an e-mail or twitter print out has been used as proof of admission!
