Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Avoid arrest and jail time

I am currently under investigation for a felony theft/embezzlement crime. I don't really want to go into further details in this forum. The questions I have are: How can a lawyer possibly prevent charges from ever being filed? If not, how can a laywer then prevent me from being arrested and taken to jail? I can't afford both an attorney and bail! I have not spoken with the police even though I have been asked by a detective to call her. Thanks for your time!

No lawyer can guarantee you won't be charged or arrested. If the police and DA have the facts, you will be. Having an attorney can ensure that they don't do so without a strong case. Take the only advice anyone should offer you gratis, 'don't talk to the police'. Save your money, you will need an attorney more than you need bail, and an attorney might be able to arrange an OR release or get a bail reduction. There are many ways in which an attorney can help prevent an arrest in the first place or, in the alternative, arrange for a "voluntary surrender" whereby you might avoid bail altogether, depending on various circumstances. I'd be glad to help guide you accordingly if you email or call me at 212-858-7768.
