Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

misdemeanor

I had a misdemeanor 19 yrs ago in NYC and never showed up to court because I was out of the country. Do you think it's still active and how should i go about to clean it up?

Re: misdemeanor

Vacating the warrant depends on details that need to be addressed in a consultation rather than a puiblic board. Generally, the warrant is vacated upon your return to the court to anser for the underlying charge.

Re: misdemeanor

Of course it is 'still active'. There is a warrant for your arrest. Hire a local attorney to deal with it, turn you in, and negotiate a plea bargain or set it for trial.

Re: misdemeanor

A bench warrant most likely has been issued and is still there. Bench warrants never expire. Retain a lawyer to investigate this situation for you. You could start with a local one or hire one in NY City.
