Re: Misdemenor
While you could go to jail (Petty Larceny carries up to one year in the local jail) the more likely result will be an ACD (adjournment in contemplation of dismissal) with community service; a disorderly conduct with a fine and or community service.
It would help you greatly to invest in a lawyer. He or she will make sure the right thing happens and that you do not go to jail.
It is going to cost you far more than you took (assuming you are guilty) but it is worth the money.
If you are innocent then you should ask for a lawyer or hire one so you can go to trial. If you win you can sue the store for arresting you.
If you wish to speak to me about representing you, you may reach me through the links provided by Law Guru, below.
Good luck.
Re: Misdemenor
With what you described, it is unlikely that you would do any jail time, assuming you have a experienced attorney. Read the article on my website. If this is a LA case give me a call.
Good Luck
