Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Post-Conviction Remedy Question
Over 10 years ago I was convicted of fraud. I was 20 years old and suffering from a lot of emotional problems. I pled guilty and sought counseling. Completed probation early and did everything I was supposed to do. I am a very different person today, except that I have a Felony conviction which makes it very difficult for me to keep a steady job. Is there anything I can do in NY to clear my record?
Even though applications say ''a conviction is not a bar to employment'' once I disclose it, I never hear from them again. If I am lucky to avoid that question, when the employer finds out (even if it's after two perfect years of working for them) I end up getting fired.
I am so desperate to change this so I can be a fully productive working member of society and not feel so ashamed over something that happened over 10 years ago, when I was a dumb, confused, troubled kid.

Re: Post-Conviction Remedy Question
I'm sorry to tell you that there is very little to be done here... NY does not allow for expungement of convictions.
