Legal Question in Entertainment Law in New York

Are verbal agreements binding? Such as a company negotiates with one company to do a movie then another company offers a better deal before they sign with the first company. Can they legally sign with the second company or are they verbally linked to accept the first offer.

Generally no unless certain representations were made and/or the first company relied on these representations in good faith and incurred expenses or lost opportunities. However this does not mean that the first company couldn't bring a law suit even if the claim might be rejected.

If you are concerned about a specific situation, you should be safe than sorry and consult with an attorney to make sure that you are protected. Feel free to contact my office at your earliest convenience.
