Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My boyfriend and I are getting married however he is currently unemployed and owes back child support. Will my wages be taken out my check or bank be frozen to cover his child support until he works?

Spouses are not obligated to pay child support for their step children. Therefore, your wages are safe from garnishment. However, in many cases, step parents are forced to pay child support in the long run to prevent their spouses from going to jail or having their licenses revoked.

Also, out of an abundance of caution you should not completely comingle funds in a joint bank account. I recommend having separate bank accounts and a joint one that is funded to pay expenses for one to two weeks.
