Legal Question in Family Law in New York

my boyfriend has split up with his ex almost 5 years ago and she wont let him see his 2 children. I was wondering how he would go about finding them and getting in touch with them?

He may consider hiring a private investigator to find them. Once he finds them, and he is the legal father, he needs to file for visitation. If he isn't the legal father, he needs to establish paternity and then seek visitation. Attached is the NYS site for establishing paternity
