Legal Question in Family Law in New York

divorce, custody

i have a divorce and custody case pending for almost a year

we were supposed to settle but now my ex husband changed his mind and will not settle

i owe a lot of money to my attorney and this means even more money

can i request the court to appoint an attorney free of charge?

You might try the local legal service, but they have serious financial limitations which causes legal services to not take everyone.

The Court will not appoint a free lawyer for your case.

Re: divorce, custody

there are no court appointed attorneys in divorce matters as far as i am aware of. There are lawyers who handle family matters through the 18B panel which you may inquire about.
