Divorce
My husband abondoned my 3 children and I, 8 years ago. I hired an attorney paid $5000.00, and because my husband would not cooperate and provide the required information assets, imcome etc. my case was dissmissed failure to prosecute. I want my divorce is there a statute of limitations as to how many years he has been gone? Please help I live in Suffolk County New York

I suggest you consult a competent attorney to start a new case and get it done correctly. You may also have a case against your former lawyer for malpractice. Your husband cannot simply refuse to cooperate without serious consequences.

Your husband's failure to cooperate is not a reason for not getting divorce. There are certain court procedures that can force your husband to comply. You should hire an attorney who can start and finish this case for you. There is no statute of limitation on this matter.

The prior attorneys are correct. You hired a dud.
I have had cases where the husband, after appearing in the divorce action, left for another country. In each case I was able to obtain a divorce on default. My office is in Nassau County if you want to contact me.
