Legal Question in Family Law in New York

my friend moved out of her house a year ago. she is getting a divorce. they own the home together and are splitting it. he is telling her she owes back payments and taxes. is this true?

They can agree to back payments and taxes or the court in the divorce action. The best thing you can do as a friend is to tell her to stop getting legal advice from her husband and retain a lawyer to protect her interests. If she cannot afford an attorney, she might qualify for a pro bono attorney. She should check with her county's bar association.
