Legal Question in Family Law in New York

I am looking to move out of state with my 3 yr old son. His father pays me monthly for child care expenses and sees him fairly regularly- although neither the child suport or visitation is ourt ordered. We've never been to family court, as our split was amicable. Do I need my ex's permission to move out of state with the baby?

Essentially no, but he may file a petition with family court now and may seek to have you essentially forced to move back. I wouod highly suggest talking this out beforehand and seeing if you could also amicably resolve this as well.
