Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My son and his girlfriend rented a house and lived togehter. The lease is in my sons name. The relationship ended. My son let her come in to get any of her belongings. He changed the locks. She called the police and he was told that he had to supply her with a key to the house or he would be arrested. Is this legal?

Yes, your son could not lock out his girlfriend because she was living there, regardless of the name on the lease.
