Different state divorce

Can you file for Divorce in a different state? ie married in Illinois file for divorce in NY. Spouse lived outside of the US at moment of filing and was never inform of intention to file for a divorce.

You can petition for divorce wherever you have been living for a certain amount of time. In Florida, it's at least 6 months prior to filing. If you didn't at least try to serve the spouse and give constructive notice at all, you may have a deffect that the spouse could bring up to set aside the default.
