Legal Question in Family Law in New York

violation of a support order

can I be jailed more than once for a violation of the same support order? Once I am out of jail I plan on getting a job and making payments but have no lump sum to give the courts. Can they extend my sentence or sentence me again?

Yes if you fail to make the payment ordered you can be rearrested. The money keeps accruing with further nonpayments and the new amounts can also subject you to arrest.

It sounds as if you should file for a downward modification of support.
