Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

Collection of Money Owed through an Oral Contract

I rented a home for 9 months with another person. I was the sole signer on the lease. The agreement was we would split rent and expenses. Starting in month 5, the roommate couldn't pay her share. I covered per the lease and kept detailed monthly tallies and gave her letters as to what was owed to which she agreed. She paid a portion of what was owed over the next few months. Before the lease was up, she moved out of state and left no forwarding address. The amount is significant to me - $2500.00. I have her social security number and want to know what, if any, legal recourse I have to put a lien on property or hold her accountable. Thank you so much.
