Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York
distressed NYU dental students
We are a group of affected foreign trained dentists and their family members. About 35 foreign trained dentists, who had previously been admitted and confirmed to start Advanced Placement DDS Program at New York University College of Dentistry starting on 4th June 2007, have now been denied admission.
NYU Office of Dental Admissions claims that these students did not meet medical, financial and/or visa requirements by the deadline. The fact is, these students were not communicated about any such deadline either through the information packet they received upon submitting $2500 deposit to join the program, or when they proactively communicated with the Admissions Office by email, phone or in person, in trying to meet these requirements.
It appears that the admissions office has overbooked the program this year and are discriminatorily picking and canceling students out. The admissions office individually tells these students that they might be offered a seat this year if one opens up. Since none of the other wait listed students were given this canceled seat, it raises a question about the availability of these seats in the first place. Our steps to escalate matter to NYU higher authority have been unsuccessful.

Re: distressed NYU dental students
Litigation probably can't make new seats in this program, but it could possibly get your deposit back, if in fact the college is refusing to do so. Let me know if that is the case, but otherwise I don't see much being accomplished through the courts.
