Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

lanlord/tenant

rented apartment month to month basis. paid 6 months rent only lived there 2 months lanlord will not refund my money. No lease signed no 30 day notice because his wife said she already had a new tenant to move in. How can I get my money back?

Make a formal request for a refund (certified letter). If that fails, take them to housing court as self-represented litigant (pro se).
