Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

In supreme court practice, you must issue an execution to the sheriff.

Im confused as to that statement

After the court issues a writ of execution for the enforcement of a civil judgment, the writ must be presented to the Sheriff for enforcement of the judgment (e.g. the Sheriff goes to a bank to garnish the debtor's bank account).
