An asylum applicant has to wait at least 150 days after filing of the asylum application, I-589, in order to become eligible to apply for a work permit.

An asylum applicant get work authorization 150 days he filed for asylum, providing however that any delays in processing the case were not caused by the applicant. There are many circumstances that can "stop the clock".

You should consult with an immigration lawyer to determine whether in your particular case you are eligible.

If you have further questions, you can contact our firm.

I would need more information regarding your particular case before I could comment on it properly.

However, what I can say is that you are not authorized to work until your asylum has been granted.

After it's been granted you will be allowed to work.
