Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
I am a U.S. citizen and I want to apply for green card for my sister who is currently living in U.S. I want to know how long is the process for her to receive the green card and is it possible for me to apply for her? Lastly, what are the requirements?

Yes, you can apply. However, if she is living in US illegally (out of status), she will have a problem adjusting status. Waiting time for people born in most countries (as it's country-specific) is about 8-9 years at this time.

Since you are a US citizen, you can apply for your sister. In order to qualify for a green card, she will have to have entered the US legally, unless she is in status or a petition was filed for her before 2001. Waiting period is approximately 8-10 years. You can call or e-mail me if you have additional questions, or want to discuss in further detail.
Please note that this communication does not establish an attorney-client relationship.
