Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
one of my friend is here in the states working as a post-doc with J visa.
the visa will expire by the end of June.
how can she extend her visa? she extended her contract with the school couple of weeks ago.
does she have to go outside US to get the extension?
i will appreciate the answer, thanks.

There are two different things: a visa and a status. A visa can be expired, while a status is still valid. If in doubt, a friend shall consult with a lawyer to see if she is in a valid non-immigrant status.
