Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
Hello,
The question is: Do I need a sponsor when adjusting status from F-1 to the one of a green card holder?
I won a green card, and it's now time for the adjustment interview. USCIS sent me a list of documents to bring with me. Not all of them are applicable in my case, but one of them got me confused. They ask either for my own letter of employment on company letter head with W-2 and federal income tax returns for the current year (have none of those), or an affidavit of support from a sponsor with their proof of status in the US, letter of employment, W-2's and federal income tax returns for the current year.
I filled out an affidavit of support as a self-sponsor and will attach my bank statement as a proof that I have funds (savings). Will it be enough or I need a co-sponsor? (or maybe I don't need to show them any financial documents at all?)

You need to show some documents that you will not become a public charge, even though DV lottery winners are not subject to the I-864 Affidavit of support requirement.
When dealing with DV adjustment, you have to keep in mind that your time is limited: you have to be approved by Sep 30. If there is any delay caused by you or the CIS, and you are not approved prior to Sep 30th, your adjustment will be denied.
