Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York

Hi Sir,

I'm legal alien with permission to work. I apply for a social security card number, the office sent me a letter after 5 months, it tell me that immigration services cannot verify my case, so, I' m not elligible to have SSN. What can I do? I have to take an attorney or ask the immigration services? Please, help me

If you are in USA legally and have a work permit, then you should be eligible for a SSN.

I would need more information regarding your particular case before I could comment on it properly.

However, what I can say is that if the US immigration service cannot verify your case then there will be a problem. Immigration will not issue you a social security number until you provide proof that you went through their system.

Do you have any letters/correspondence from immigration?

Did you keep photocopies of the petition you filed? Do you have proof of mailing for your petition?
