If you are not a permanent resident yet (do not have a green card) and have been residing illegally for some periods of time between 1995 and now - it's not safe to travel abroad even if you have travel document because you can be denied admission back to USA.
If you are a permanent resident and have a green card, then it's okay to travel internationally.
