Legal Question in Intellectual Property in New York

Let's say I have an idea for a restaurant that has a unique aspect or combines two different kinds of establishments for example, you can 'blank' while having drinks/food. Is there a way I can protect my idea when pitching to potential investors? secondary to that, is it illegal to audio record a meeting without consent? What if I get them to sign confidentiality agreements at the time of the meet?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Probably the only way to "protect" your idea is a well-drafted nondisclosure agreement that is signed before you say anything. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
