Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

Hiring interview

In New York State, is an employer supposed to first put you to work, then interview you later? I was hired by a local retailer and promised an interview. The manager put me to work first. I worked 1.5 days and still was not interviewed. My personal ID was not checked or copied. I was not given tax forms to fill out. Seems my rights were violated.

Re: Hiring interview

Your question is unclear. If you were not paid, you can file a complaint with the State Dep't of Labor and file suit in Small Claims Court.

If you were paid, I don't see what you stand to gain by complaining about your employer's admittedly backwards hiring procedures.
