Legal Question in Employment Law in New York

I was working for a large company in CA and was transferred to the NY office. Although the company paid mymoving expense, I had to sell my house, my husband had to quit his job and I had to move my children to a new school. I worked in the NY office for 2 months and then was laid off. . Does it make a difference since the employer & I entered into a written contract stating that I would be employed for a minimum of three years?

Of course it makes a difference unless you were terminated for misconduct, which would likely be your employer's basis for breaching that agreement.

In any event, you should really speak with an employment severance attorney to discuss your options BEFORE signing anything from the company. If you have been wronged, you may be entitled to the value of the three year contract plus additional compensation.

I'd be happy to offer you a complimentary consultation to discuss this with you by telephone or email. You may email me at [email protected] or call 646-450-FIRED (3473).
