Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
We are being evicted and my boyfriend has always paid the rent till we came into hard times recently. Both of our names are on the notice of petition. We never had a lease. Do I have to appear in court even though I'm not the main rent payer and we had no lease? Thank you for your help.

Yes, as a defendant you should appear to protect your rights and launch a defense regarding how much you owe and when you have to vacate.
