What is free market rental and what rights do I have as a tenant with a sublet from someone who owns the apartment?

It would mean that an apartment is not subject to rent-stabilization or rent-control regulations. OF course, just because someone tells you that an apartment is a free-market rental doesn't necesarily mean that that'st he case. Generally speaking, a legal sub-tenant has the rights granted in the sub-lease subject to the terms of the primary lease that the tenant has with the landlord.
