Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in New York
I am moving out of the apartment I was renting with other three roommates because two of them have decided to make my life miserable for no reason. They said that we should look for new people on craigslist, which we did. However, they looked for someone too behind our back. In any case, I currently paying 465 plus utilities, but in the ad they asked for 500 plus utilities, trying to pay less per month. This is extremely unfair, especially since they have the biggest room, a private bathroom, and since they share the room they already only pay about 230 month plus utilities. And we just found out they have been lying to our landlord about having a second dog in the house, and they have been dishonest about previous billing statements. Basically I don't want them to take advantage of somebody else by making them pay more than they should so, I was wondering whether they were violating any law or such by cheating prospective tenants.

If you're moving out, what do you care as long as the landlord takes your name off the lease.
Yes, they can charge the new roommate more money for your room.
