Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

What is it called if a person hires a lawyer to advise them along the way on a case. Is there a particular legal name for this or a certain way it needs to be referred to in the retainer? For example a lawyer who is not working specifically on doing the case but a lawyer to advise along the way of the case? And would you know what was be the approx. correct fee to pay this type of lawyer? I appreciate it. Thanks!

There isn't a specific name. Many call it a a la carte arrangement. In fact, many lawyers will not enter into such agreements for litigation because of ethical considerations.

If you are able to enter into this type of agreement, the fee will be based on several factors, including the experience of the attorney and the difficulty of the matter.
