Lawyer fees and reasonable expenses in New York

My wife was involve in a car accident and we're seeking compensation. We want to know if we are awarded any money what is the common fee for a lawyer in Long Island, NY., and what will be considered reasonable incurred expenses by our lawyer.

Legal fees are usually 1/3 of the net recovery.

Costs and disbursements are usually postage, photocopy, expert preparation and testimony fees, medical records-- anything necessary to carry on the case other than attorney's fees.

As a personal injury trial lawyer, my fees are 1/3 of the net recovery. Net recovery is after expenses and disbursements are deducted.

This is the generally accepted business practice.

General fees and disbursements are for filing fees, copying of medical records and retrieval fees, fees for experts, etc.
