Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York
I just reitred my engineering practice in nys after 20 years. How long should I keep my errors and omissions insurance in effect (should any law suits come down the road)? I heard 6 years due to statutes.

The statute of limitations (time limit in which to start a lawsuit) on a contractual matter is six years. On negligence cases, it is three, beginning on the date of accident. Your insurance likely covers negligence claims only. But annother wrinkle is that the statute of limitations is extended to ten years maximum for injured children. Probably safest to keep the coverage going for the full ten years, if you can afford to. Best, M. E. Zuller
