Legal Question in Personal Injury in New York

Does a simple letter from a Law Firm stating that they have been retained by the defendant in a civil law suit suffice as an "answer" to the complaint?

Actual verbiage on the letter states "We will serve our answer within the near future."

That statement would indicate to me the Firm themselves do not believe the letter suffices as an "answer".

That letter is not an actual "Answer". They are just letting you know that the Defendant has retained an attorney and that they will serve a formal Answer in the near future. You should be on the lookout for that document. Is this a case you are representing yourself in? I advise hiring an attorney to make sure all your legal bases are covered. Should you wish to discuss this any further feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 347-702-4133.

All the best,
